Franklin Leroy Olson, Sr
Franklin Leroy Olson, Sr., 90, of Plainview, died peacefully at St. Isidore Health Care Center of Greenwood Prairie in Plainview, Minn. On April 7, 2016 after complications from a stroke. His family was fortunate to be at his side as he passed.
Frank was born October 11, 1925, to Bert and Vida Olson in Plainview, Minn. He grew up on their family farm between Millville and Plainview. He met his future wife, Mary Agnes McGrath on the school bus on their way to school in Plainview. They were married on April 8, 1947. Frank and Mary’s family like to believe that they were together to celebrate their 69th wedding anniversary in heaven.
Frank and Mary resided in Millville, Minn., where they owned Millville Oil Company. They also owned and operated a school bus company driving busses for Elgin-Millville Schools. After selling their business in Millville, they resided in Plainview where he worked at Napa Auto Parts. Frank had resided at Green Prairie Place in Plainview since August 2013.
Frank had a green thumb and enjoyed spending time at his garden where he always planted enough to share with his family. He looked forward to the fall deer hunting season, played a mean game of cards, and enjoyed going on Sunday drives. His concern for wife’s health and well-being was always a priority for him. Frank will be remembered for his quiet, kind, and gentle spirit and his love of family. He will be deeply missed.
Frank is survived by his children; David (Doris) Olson of Plainview, Jean (Bob) Lyons of Plainview, Darlene (Steve) Richardson of Rochester, Donald (Kathy) Olson of Plainview, Nancy (Bob) Gessner of Hastings, daughter-in-law Sara (wife of the late Frank Jr.) of Plainview; 12 grandchildren Bryan, Brenden, Bridget, Jed, Sara, Kyle, Mike, Mary, Nick, Chad, Andrea, and Jay; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, Howard Olson of Plainview; and one a sister Marian (Gordon) Spradlin of Sandpoint, Idaho; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Robert) Olson, Irene Marshman, Katherine Kerrins, and Oma McGrath.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; son Franklin Jr. and an infant son, Ronald; his parents; brothers, Albert, Donald, Everett, Robert, and Wayne; and sisters, Maxine and Marilyn.
Frank’s family are grateful to the staff at St. Isidore’s for their exceptional care. They also are very appreciative of the staff and residents at Green Prairie Place for their kindness and friendship. Memorials will be donated to the Hilltop Cemetery Fund, Millville, Minn. And Green Prairie Place, Plainview, Minn.
The visitation will be Saturday, April 16 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview. Frank’s funeral will immediately follow at 11:30 a.m., in the funeral home chapel, with Amy Richardson officiating. Burial will be in St. Joachim’s Catholic Cemetery in Plainview.
