Nancy Jane (Riess) Schmitz

Nancy Jane (Riess) Schmitz, 90, of Elgin, died, Friday, April 2, 2021 at Whitewater Health Care Center in St. Charles.
Nancy Jane Thompson was born September 20, 1930 to Archie and Etta (Franklin) Thompson in Dover, MN. She graduated from Dover High School in 1948, and worked at Northwester Bell Telephone Co. in St. Charles for 2 years. She married Galen Riess March, 1950 and they lived in Rochester. He passed away in 1974. In March, 1978 she married John Schmitz and they moved to Elgin, MN. She worked at Daytons Dept. Store in the Credit and Cashier area for 34 years, and retired June, 1994. She enjoyed playing cards, reading, crocheting, baking and doing puzzles.
She is survived by her husband, a daughter Marvel (Ronald) Betts of Rochester & a son Evan Riess of Dodge Center. Seven grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Other survivors are two stepdaughters, Catherine (Tim) Graham & Karen Kelly of Davenport, Iowa. A stepson Steven (Mary) Schmitz of Broadhead, Wisconsin. Two step- granddaughters, and two step- grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Jean Luce & Della Hughes.
Funeral Mass will be Thursday, April 8, 2021, 11:00 am at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Plainview with Father William Becker officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester.
