OFAFC wrestler to compete in sectional tournament
OSSEO - Osseo-Fairchild/Augusta/Fall Creek Tri-County prep wrestler Luke Fischer will compete for a trip to the state tournament in the WIAA Division 2 Neillsville Sectional Tournament being held Saturday, Feb. 6.
Fischer qualified for the tournament by winning his weight class at 220 pounds in last weekend's WIAA Division 2 Arcadia Regional Tournament. Fischer, a senior, won both his matches in the tournament via pinfall.
His first match of the sectional tournament is against Bradley Gottwald of Hayward/Minong Northwood co-op team. Fischer has a 9-1 record this season and ranked No. 7 in state while Gottwald is 4-4.
Fischer has to make the top two to qualify for state. He'll have his work cut out for him as the top two ranked wrestlers in the state in this weight class are in the sectional tournament: No. 1 Koy Hopke, a freshman from Amery and No. 2 Max Ramberg, a junior from Baldwin-Woodville. Ashland sophomore Isaac Pearce, who received honorable mention in the last state rankings is also in the sectional tournament field along with Ellsworth's Ian Matzek who Fischer defeated last weekend to win the regional title.
The state tournament is next weekend at Adams-Friendship High School
