One hundred vehicles reported involved in crash on I-94

Interstate closed due wrecked vehicles, ice-covered roadway

OSSEO - Nearly one hundred vehicles are reported to have involved in a crash on I-94 between Osseo and Northfield in Jackson County which took place the early morning hours of Thursday, Dec. 23.

The accident was first reported at approximately 5:45 a.m. just outside of Hixton.

A small weather system came through western Wisconsin earlier this morning, Thursday, Dec. 23 at first brining light snow which then changed over to freezing rain as temperatures will warm into the upper 30s today. While not a lot of ice covered the roadway it was enough to make travel hazardous. Not only were vehicles, particularly semi-trailers damaged from crashing into each other but were also burned up in fires which resulted.

According to the Wisconsin State Patrol (WSP), in a Twitter announcement, I-94 is closed between exits 88 eastbound (Osseo) and 115 westbound (Black River Falls) due to a multi-vehicle crash involving a number of semi-tractor trailers and passenger vehicles. Other crashes and road closures are also reported on I-94 outside Eau Claire and extending into Buffalo and Dunn counties as well.

The WSP reports no injuries or fatalities in the crash. They are is expected to release a more detailed report this morning's crashes later today.
