Thunder golfers go into postseason
The Osseo-Fairchild Girls Golf Team hopes to regain the momentum they had lost last week in the WIAAA Division 2 Chetek-Weyerhaeuser Regional Meet at Turtleback Golf Course on Thursday, Oct. 1.
Playing at Turtleback last week, the Thunder finished a solid third in C-W Invite with an 18-hole score of 432 led by junior Alexis Ness's score of 91 which tied for second individually behind meet medalist Clara Kongshaug who won with a score of 74,. Other O-F results were: freshman Layla Lenion, 108; freshman Laurie Zimmerman 116, senior Kenna Gruba 117, and senior Emma Lyngen 119.
Unfortunately the 18-hole CloverCroix Conference Meet did not go as well. Played last week Thursday at Lake Hallie Golf Course, O-F finished fifth in the meet with a score of 407. Colfax/Elk Mound won the meet and the overall conference title as they shot a 362 followed by runner-up Bloomer who shot a 387.
Ness did finish fifth individually with a score of 92. Lyngen shot a 99, Gruba 106, Zimmerman 110 and Lenion shot a 111. Kongshaug was the meet medalist with a score of 71 and overall conference champ.
O-F did finish third overall in the conference standings. Ness was the runner-up individually behind Kongshaug, Lyngen made second team, all-conference while Lenion received honorable mention.
The top three teams and top four golfers not on a qualifying teams will advance to the Unity/Luck/Frederic Sectional Meet next Monday, Oct. 5 at Luck Golf Course where the top two teams and top three individuals not on a qualifying teams advance to the state meet Oct. 12-13 at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison.
