Tri-County prep girls basketball teams put back by losses
Tri-County Area prep girls basketball teams have all taken recent losses that have put them back in their respective conference standings.
In the Western Cloverbelt, Cadott and Chippewa Falls McDonell are still at the top of the league standings with 5-0 records with both Fall Creek and Osseo-Fairchild unable to break their hold over the conference so far.
Cadott edged Fall Creek on Tuesday, Dec. 20 by a 59-58 score at Fall Creek. Both teams had three players in double figures scoring but Elly Eiler's 20 points and eight rebounds for the unbeaten Hornets was a big factor in their win despite the fact the Crickets held Cadott's top scorer, Lauren Goettl to just 11 points. Kennedy Tumm finished with 15 points to lead FC in scoring and Jasmin Heuer had 14 points and Jenna Anders had 10 points.
Osseo-Fairchild was edged by McDonell at home on Dec. 17. 54-48. The score in this ballgame was tied at 46-46 with under two minutes to go but the Macks picked-up key buckets from sophomore Sophia Schmidgall, part of a 10-point effort on her part, in the final moments of the ballgame to allow McDonell to stay unbeaten. McDonell senior Marley Hughes led all scorers with 19 points. The Thunder's top scorers in the ballgame were Taylor Gunderson 11 points, Eleice Dahl 10 points and Madi Loonstra nine points.
In other WCC results from Dec. 12-20, O-F notched big wins over Cochrane-Fountain City 64-43 back on Dec. 13 and against Thorp 77-44 on Dec. 20. Both Fall Creek and Osseo-Fairchild are a game over .500 overall before the Holiday break.

In the Large Dairyland, Blair-Taylor is well out in front in the league standings with a 5-0 record. Augusta is third place with a 3-2 record in league play, winning their third straight league game, but just barely, over Eleva-Strum 46-45 on Tuesday, Dec. 20.
