Alva E. Schwirtz

Alva E. Schwirtz, 91 of Wabasha, passed away on September 10, 2022, at Gundersen St Elizabeth Hospital Nursing Home, Wabasha, MN.
Alva was born to Everett and Veronica (Koelmel) Schwirtz on August 12, 1931, in Wabasha. He grew up in Wabasha and went to grade school in Wabasha. He worked road construction for many years along with many other jobs.
He married Donna Mae Wibel on November 27, 1952, and this November they would have been married for 70 years. Like he said, “We gave it one good run.” They are the parents of Sandy Mae Schwirtz Neumann. She died January 16, 2022.
Alva had many hobbies, but nothing compares to his love of collecting salt and pepper shakers. He had over 25,000 pairs. He especially loved his grandson and three great grandchildren.
Alva is survived by his wife, Donna Mae; son-in-law Jack Neumann; grandson Derek (Annie) Neumann; three great grandchildren: Emma, Jonathan, and Oliver Neumann; two sisters-in-law: Charlotte Van Zanten and Betty Stromness; and nephew Randy (Alice) Stein.
He was preceded in death by his parents Everett and Veronica Schwirtz; daughter Sandy Mae Neumann; and sister-in-law Joyce Burmeister.
A private burial service will take place at Riverview Cemetery, Wabasha, MN.
