David Clarence Ochsner

At 8:09 AM Sunday October 9, 2022, David Clarence Ochsner died surrounded by family. Despite declining health due to dementia, he accepted his new reality and continued bringing joy to others. I am particularly grateful to the exceptional people at Cottagewood Senior Living, particularly those who cared for him in Cottage Five. He loved them and they loved him.

On Friday June 13, 1940, in Wabasha, MN David arrived, a fourth boy for Anita Bouquet Ochsner, and Dr. Clarence George Ochsner, already proud parents of John, Tom, and Peter. The family subsequently grew to include Bill, Fred, CG, Mary, Carolyn, and Paul.

David graduated from St. Felix High School in 1959, and earned a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Minnesota in 1963. After a few years with Abbot Laboratory in North Chicago, he returned to school and acquired an MBA from Northwestern University. David met Mary while living in Waukegan, IL They married in 1968 and subsequently had two daughters Jennifer and Katie.

David started with IBM back in the early days of personal computers, and subsequently joined A T and T and finally Digital Equipment (DEC) which took him and the family to Rochester MN, Winston Salem, NC, and finally to Bernardsville, NJ where he, Mary and the girls spent 27 years.

David so loved Wabasha and the river, that he and Mary chose to retire there in 2008 where they bought a condo with a river view.

David is survived by his brothers: John, Peter, Bill, CG, Fred, and Paul; and sisters Mary (Haeg) and Carolyn (Hogan), wife Mary, daughter Jennifer (Sullivan), daughter Katie (Bare) and six grandsons: Andrew, Owen, Brian (Bare) and Matthew, Jack, and Graham (Sullivan), all of whom “Grampy” Dave taught how to ride a bicycle.
