Donald I. Schouweiler, 90, Kellogg
Donald I. Schouweiler, age 90, of Kellogg, a lifelong resident of the area, died Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center in Wabasha surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 14, 1925 at home in Conception in Highland Township of Wabasha County, the son of Paul and Agnes (Graner) Schouweiler. He graduated from Kellogg High School. He then served from 1944-1946 in the U. S. Army. Upon discharge he returned to the Kellogg area. He married Mary “Toni” McNary December 30, 1947 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kellogg. Don worked 25 years as a mechanic for Arens Implement in Kellogg, two years at the Kellogg Liquor Store and then 15 years as a mechanic at Kruger Implement in Plainview. He then worked until he was 85 years old for High Plains in Kellogg, retiring in 2010.
Don was a lifelong member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. He was active in the military service clubs of Kellogg and Wabasha. He was a life member of the Wabasha Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Post #4086, the Wabasha American Legion Post #50 and the Kellogg American Legion Post #546. He enjoyed picking walnuts and blackberries in the fall along with playing cards.
He is survived by his wife, Toni Schouweiler, Kellogg, MN; children, Susan Josselyn, Wabasha, MN, Jean Schouweiler, Joan Schouweiler (Dwayne Pelowski), Lorraine (Rollie) Hinck, all of Rochester, MN, Nora (Willard) Drysdale, Wabasha, MN, Mark Schouweiler, Kellogg, MN, Joe (Lisa) Schouweiler, Chisago City, MN, Chuck (Julie) Schouweiler, Mosinee, WI, Andy (Deb) Schouweiler, Wabasha, MN, Dave (Jane) Schouweiler, Kellogg, MN, Mike Schouweiler, Wabasha, MN; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leo (Kay) Schouweiler, Rochester, MN, Paul (Anita) Schouweiler, Kasson, MN, Mary Lou Schouweiler, Kellogg, MN; sisters, Lorraine Hill, Chillicothe, OH, Alice Hall, Winona, MN; nieces and nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Agnes Schouweiler, infant daughter, Mary Schouweiler, and brother, John Schouweiler.
A funeral Mass was offered on Friday, March 4, 2016 at 11:00am at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kellogg with the Reverend Monsignor Thomas Cook officiating. Interment was in St. Agnes Cemetery. Casket bearers will be his six sons. Military rites were performed by the Kellogg and Wabasha American Legion Posts, the Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Post and the MNARNG Honor Guard from Minneapolis. Family and friends called at the Abbott Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-8pm and at the church on Friday one hour before the Mass. The family prefers memorials to St. Agnes Cemetery Association c/o St. Felix/St. Agnes Parish Office 117 3rd St. W., Wabasha, MN 55981.
