Frank Sullivan
Francis Edward Sullivan, known to many as Frank or Butch, passed away September 4, 2026, at the Mayo Clinic Health System- St. Mary’s Campus in Rochester, MN at the age of 81 following a battle with Lewy-Body Dementia.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Abbott Funeral Home, Wabasha, MN. Visitation will be held prior to the service at the funeral home from 9 AM to 11 AM. Burial will follow the memorial service at St. Agnes Catholic Cemetery in Kellogg, MN.
Frank was born on July 22, 1945, in Wabasha, MN to Francis S. and Elaine (Passe) Sullivan. He was united in marriage to Janice Welsh on October 19, 1974, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kellogg, MN. The couple was blessed with a son, David.
Frank grew up working on the family farm with his sister Eileen & his brother Vincent until he graduated from St. Felix High School in 1963. Frank then joined the U.S. Air Force and served 4 years in, among other places, The Philippines until he was Honorably Discharged in 1967. After leaving the Air Force, he attended Winona State University while working full-time and graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree in 1972. After getting his degree, Frank went to work as an accountant in Altura, MN & later worked for Miller-Harrington Agency in Plainview, MN. Frank, an Enrolled Agent Tax Accountant, later joined Greenwood Agency in Plainview as a partner. In 2000, he moved on and partnered with Tim Scanlon & Mark Murch to form Whitewater Tax & Consulting, where he remained until he retired in 2024. Frank was extremely gifted with numbers and in high-demand as an accountant throughout his career.
Whether you knew him as Francis, Frank or “Butch”, he was well-liked and respected by his family & friends, business partners, as well as everyone who knew him personally & professionally. His integrity, dedication, work-ethic, talent, kindness, sense of humor, quick-wit and his willingness to help when needed made him easy to like & respect. He was a long-time member of The American Legion Post 546 in Kellogg, MN serving as Commander for several of those years. Frank was also elected to the Town Board of Greenfield Township many times over the years as clerk & later treasurer. He was also a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kellogg, MN.
Francis enjoyed antique tractors & machinery- attending shows & demonstrations. Frank drove his old Ford tractor in the Kellogg Watermelon Festival Antique Tractor Parade several times. He enjoyed road trips with family and friends as well as simply relaxing & watching old westerns, comedies, and shows like Gold Rush, Deadliest Catch, & American Pickers.
Frank most enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife of 50 years Janice, as well as their son David and their friends & family. Frank & Janice enjoyed going out eat or for a nice drive just the two of them or with their son and/or friends & family. Frank liked being and working outdoors & really enjoyed just taking a nice walk or riding around their yard & property in the UTV.
Frank also found the time to take trips with family & friends and to take his son David to many fun events over the years, including monster-truck rallies, Twins, Timberwolves, Vikings games and many pro-wrestling events over the years.
Francis is survived by his son, David Sullivan; and sister, Eileen (Jim) Roebke. He is also survived by his beloved cats Fluffy, Dynamo, & Jet who brought him tremendous joy & comfort. He is preceded in death by his parents, Francis S. & Elaine Sullivan; his brother, Vincent J. Sullivan; and his wife, Janice Sullivan.
