George Lamey

George M. Lamey, Jr. 89 of Kellogg, MN, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Gundersen – St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center, Wabasha, MN.
George Michael was born September 24, 1936, in Wabasha to Violet (Wampach) and George Lamey, Sr. He attended Greenfield Country school and graduated from St. Felix High School, served in the US Army and also with the 544th Wabasha Ordinance Co. and was honorably discharged.
On January 14, 1961, he married Rose Marie “Rosie” Johnson at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kellogg. Together they had five children: James, MaryJo, Tony, Mike, and Paul.
He was formerly employed at Rochester Construction from 1957 until 1963 then onto Big Jo Flour Mill (ConAgra) from 1963 until retiring in 1996, and filled his leisure time with farming. He was a long-time member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and the Wabasha American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling, checking on the cattle, going to the casino on the bus and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He loved the farm life.
George loved watching the boys play slow pitch softball every Friday night in Kellogg. He would even go on weekends to watch them play in the area tournaments and went as far as Hayward, WI. George enjoyed going to the grandkids sporting events and cheering them on. He gave many, many 4 -wheeler rides to the grandkids and great grandkids.
He is survived by his children: MaryJo Schwartz (Matt Schwartz); Tony (Edna) Lamey; Mike Lamey and Paul Lamey; four grandchildren: Nicole (Shane) Mockchew, Rebecca (Jadon) Ehlinger, Courtney (Kelly) Reed and Kayla (Quin Brezinski) Quick; three great grandchildren Paisley, Braxton, and Kennedy Reed and a special companion, his dog, Kobe Ross.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Rosie; son James Lamey; great granddaughter Ella Jo Reed; and an infant sister Mary Lamey.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Gunderson Care Center (St. Anne Unit) and Mayo Clinic Hospice for their compassionate care and support they provided to George.
Funeral Mass was 11 a.m. Monday, September 28, 2026, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kellogg, with Rev. Tom Loomis officiating. Interment will be at St. Agnes Cemetery, Kellogg.
Visitation was 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, September 27, at Abbott Funeral Home, Wabasha and began at 10 a.m. Monday at the church.
Memorials can be directed to St Agnes Catholic Church, Kellogg or St Anne Unit at St Elizabeth Healthcare Center, Wabasha.
