Mary Ann Witte

Mary Ann Witte, 103 of Wabasha, MN passed away peacefully, June 30, 2024 at Gundersen – St. Elizabeth Nursing, Home, Wabasha.
Mary Ann was born March 7, 1921, to Mary (Koob) and Joseph Stamschror in Wabasha, MN. On May 12, 1941, she married Joseph Earl Witte and together they had six children, Darlene, Carol, Dwayne, Gene, Glenn, and Mary. He preceded her in death on May 28, 1957.
Mary Ann farmed with her husband, Earl, in Trout Book Valley near Dumfries, MN until his death. She moved into Wabasha in the fall of 1957. She then went to work at Andy’s Hardware, where she worked for over 25 years before retiring in 1987.
Mary Ann was a caregiver most of her life. She helped her mother with her twin sisters and cared for her mother and father-in-law before her husband’s death. After her husband passed, Mary Ann raised their children, and she was so very proud of her family.
She was a member of St. Felix CCW, VFW Auxiliary, and the SEMC Auxiliary. She was a dedicated volunteer at St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center and the hospital. In March of 2007, Mary Ann received the Bishop’s Medal for her dedication to the chapel at the Health Care Center.
Mary Ann is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Darlene Theismann, Wabasha, MN; Mary and Steve Fuchs, Anoka, MN; and William (Jennifer) Loechler, Tonganoxie, KS; sons and daughters-in-law: Dwayne and Mary Lou Witte, Mankato, MN; Gene and Sue Witte, New Ulm, MN; and Glenn and Margaret Witte, Columbia Heights, MN; 17 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Reverend Robert Stamschror, Goodview, MN; sister-in-law, Doreen Stamschror, Wabasha, MN; and brother-in-law Robert Magnuson, Red Wing, MN.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; daughter, Carol Loechler; son-in-law, Jim Theismann; grandsons, Trevor Witte and Matthew Fuchs; sisters: Rita Doane, Delores Saunders, Marvel Magnuson, Marilyn Meyer and an infant sister; brothers: Elmer and Lloyd; and a good friend, Jake.
Funeral Mass will be 12 p.m. Saturday, July 6, 2024, at St. Felix Catholic Church, Wabasha, with Rev. Robert Stamschror officiating. Interment will be at St. Felix Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2024, at Abbott Funeral Home, Wabasha with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. The visitation will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church.
