City, school board election filings complete
by Beth Kraft
Local voters will soon have the opportunity to cast their ballot for city leaders and school board members. At least two new faces will be seated with the City Council following this spring’s general election, slated to take place April 7.
Longtime councilmen and incumbents Bob Holden, Ward 3, and Galen Hagen, Ward 2, have opted not to run for re-election to the City Council.
In Mondovi’s third ward, Mike Krisik and Todd LaDuke have filed papers to vie for the open seat. Lynn Smith will be the lone name on the ballot in Ward 2.
Incumbent Gerald Rud, Ward 1, will run unopposed. At-large incumbent Ed Adams will be challenged by newcomer Lori Larson.
On the Mondovi School Board, four incumbents will be running for four open seats. Barrett Brenner, Dave Dregney, Jean Sandberg and Steve Williamson are all looking to continue their time on the Board.
The candidate who earns the least amount of votes will be tabbed to finish out the rest of former Board member Rhonna Casey’s term, due up in 2016. Casey passed away unexpectedly this past summer, and Sandberg was appointed to fill the vacant seat.
On the Eleva-Strum School Board two incumbents are up for re-election, but only one of them will appear on the April ballot.
Jody Ausen will seek another term on the Board. Chris Devine-McKillip, the second incumbent, missed the deadline to file papers for inclusion on the ballot, which passed at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 6.
Devine-McKillip still has the option to run as a write-in candidate. Ausen was the only individual to file papers for the two open seats on the Board.
On the Gilmanton School Board, incumbent Tammi Olson is seeking re-election and will run unopposed.
Rounding out the local elections, caucuses for the Strum and Eleva village boards were scheduled to take place on Monday, Jan. 12, and Monday, Jan. 19, respectively.
