Doris Winberg

Doris Violet Winberg, 92, of Mondovi, died on Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, at the American Lutheran Home in Mondovi, surrounded by her family.
She was born on March 9, 1925, in Chimney Rock Township, to Ole and Hattie (Austin) Wik. She grew up on her family’s farm in Bennett Valley and attended East Bennett Valley School. She married Lonnie Winberg and they later divorced.
Doris worked for the Mondovi Canning Company in the summer and cleaned houses and businesses year-round. Her full-time job was raising and caring for her family. She worked at the Buffalo Memorial Manor as a CNA for 17 years. She was a longtime member of Central Lutheran Church. Doris loved to plant flowers and play the piano. She made many quilts for family and friends. Reading was a lifelong passion for her. At the age of 50, determined to finally get her driver’s license, she took the initiative to organize the first adult driving class in the area. Doris’ greatest pride was her family. Some of her and her family’s best memories were created on her front porch. She will always be remembered for her sharp wit and sense of humor.
She is survived by her five children, Rachel Roellich of La Crosse, Dwight (Nancy) Winberg of Mondovi, Wallace (Sherrie Saxe) Winberg of Mondovi, Bruce (Patty) Winberg of Menomonie, Beth (Gary) Stanton of Mondovi; 16 grandchildren, Barry (June) Schultz, Jr., Brent (Lisa) Schultz, Craig (Chante) Schultz, Roger (Denise) Roellich, David (Jon Taddeo) Roellich, Paul (Debbie) Roellich, Greg (Janice) Roellich, Sarah Brudahl, Christopher Winberg, Misty (Mike) Berg, Nathan (April) Winberg, Laurie Mahlum, Melinda (Scott) Hayes, Joshua Winberg, John Winberg, Amy (Paul) Canfield; two step-grandchildren, Casey (Sara) Stanton and Julie (Derek) Buchholz; 27 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; three siblings, James (Bernice) Wik of Eleva, Tom Wik of Altoona, Diane (Duane) Slifer of Eau Claire; many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Leora Schultz; great-granddaughter, Miranda Roellich; her parents; three brothers, Herman, Lloyd and Glen; three sisters, Ethel, Loretta and Zandra.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, at Central Lutheran Church in Mondovi.Burial followed in East Bennett Valley Cemetery.
