E-S volleyball closes out regular season play

On Tuesday, Oct. 13, the Eleva-Strum Cardinals took on the Alma/Pepin Eagles, falling 3-1 in the match.
In the first set, the Cardinals took the win with a score of 20-25. In the second set it was pretty close, but the Lady Cards fell just three points short, with an ending score of 25-22. Eleva-Strum struggled to stay up, and lost 25-6 in the third set, and the final set was close but the Cardinals lost 26-24.
The overall statistical leaders of the night were Mackenzie Hutchins with eight kills, Megan McLean with 16 set assists, Jenna Booth with 19 digs, and Josie Olson with four block kills.
The Cardinals closed out their regular season schedule on Thursday, Oct. 15, against the Blair-Taylor Wildcats at home. The Cardinals played a strong, four-set match, but were defeated by Blair-Taylor, 3-1.
E-S took a strong defensive stance in the first set, but lost 25-19, and fell short just five points in the second set, 25-20. The Lady Cards came out with the win in the third, beating Blair-Taylor, 25-17. The fourth set the Cardinals fought back from a deficit but couldn’t overcome the Wildcats to force a tie-breaking fifth set, falling 25-22. For the night, the statistical leaders were Hutchins with six kills and 22 digs, McLean with 19 set assists, and Olson with six kills.
The Lady Cards finished the regular season with a record of 2-8 in the Dairyland Conference and were 5-20 overall. Drawing the No. 5 seed, the Cardinals traveled to take on No. 4 Blair-Taylor on Tuesday, Oct. 20, to start off regional quarterfinal match action.
