Ellion Gary Bornfleth, 78, of Payson, Ariz., formerly of Mondovi, Wis., died Dec. 17, 2018.
He was born Oct. 3, 1940, in Robbinsdale, Minn., and was raised on farms in southern Minnesota. He attended a single-room school, graduated from Kenyon High School, and attended the University of Minnesota for two years. He then served four years in the U.S. Air Force, as a weather observer at several bases in the U.S. and at Kusan Air Base, Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1965.
Ellion received his BA from Winona State University and married Sharon Iverson in Hayward, Minn., in 1966. They raised three children, Sherida, Kevin, and Joshua.
He worked in the Twin Cities area and then for the State of Wisconsin Department of Revenue, in Eau Claire, Wis., from 1975 to 2000, while living on a 40-acre hobby farm outside of Mondovi, Wis.
Upon retirement, he moved to Payson, Ariz., where he enjoyed traveling, hiking, walking and playing golf until 2017, when his health began to decline.
He died at home of natural causes, living life on his own terms.
He is survived by his children, Sherida Bornfleth (Richard Glowacki) of Seattle, Wash., Kevin (Kristin) Bornfleth of Prior Lake, Minn., and Joshua Madson of Shakopee, Minn.; siblings, Leslie R. (Diane) Bornfleth, Karen Morehouse and Judith (Gordon) Stanley; four grandchildren, Emma Bornfleth, Ryan Bornfleth, Autumn Madson and Connor Madson, as well as many more family members and friends.
Ellion was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Aino Bornfleth; siblings, William Bornfleth, Randall Bornfleth, and Renee Madson; nephew, Nathaniel Madson.
A memorial and interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minn., in the spring.
