Hazel Kilness

Hazel A. Kilness 92, of Eau Claire, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2017, at Orchard Hills Assisted Living in Eau Claire.
She was born on Dec. 1, 1924, to George Jr. and Clara (Bucholtz) Hager, in Buffalo City, Wis.
While growing up on the farm in Hutchinson Valley in Buffalo County, she enjoyed watching her dad’s horses and her mom’s flowers. During World War II, she worked in Mondovi at the Farmer’s, Store at the candy counter. In 1948, she married Homer Kilness and moved to Eau Claire.
In recent years she resided at Orchard Hills Assisted Living in Eau Claire.
In the summer you could always find her outside in her huge garden with her flowers and vegetables. She was always happy to see her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She was looking forward to the next family picnic. She loved to reupholster furniture and make draperies.
After staying home raising her family, she went to work in the kitchen at the Syverson Home for many years. She will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Sharon Thobaben of Mondovi, Larry Kilness (Brenda Myren) of Mondovi, Dan (Chris) Kilness of Walla Walla, Wash., Mike Kilness of Eau Claire, Tim (Ruth) Kilness of Chippewa Falls, Randy (Ruth) Kilness of Eau Claire, Lori Kilness of Wausau; grandchildren, Greg (Pam Dewitt) Hansen, Sara (Jon) Goldstein, Nathan (Lynae Ludwig) Kilness, Matthew Kilness, Dustin Kilness, Benjamin (Jamie Utphall) Kilness, Andrew Kilness, Mackenzie Kilness; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Darlene (Richard) Kastner of Richmond, Texas; sisters-in-law, Ruth Eide of Strum, Doris Hager of Altoona; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Sherman and Janice Kilness of Damascus, Ore.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Kilness, her parents; sisters, Ruth Haigh, Pearl Hager, Lois Rothering; brothers, Glen Hager, Laverne Hager, Blaise Hager, Lee Hager.
A special thank you goes out to the staff of Orchard Hills. Over the years they have taken great care of Mom. Also a thank you to HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospice for their care.
Memorials can be directed to Pinehurst Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
Funeral Service will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, at Pinehurst Lutheran Church, 3304 Fern Ct., Eau Claire, WI 54703, with Pastor Paul Sullivan officiating. Visitation will take place at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday, Nov.3. Burial will take place in the Rest Haven Cemetery, in the Town of Washington, immediately following the funeral service.
