Mondovi’s HomePlace to begin offering assisted living accommodations
by Beth Kraft
In response to a rapidly-growing demand for assisted living care in the local area, Mondovi’s HomePlace recently adjusted its licensure to begin a community-based residential facility (CBRF) within its existing nursing home community.
Jason Hazuga, HomePlace administrator, says the Mondovi facility made the decision to convert 10 of its memory care rooms to an assisted living setup due to residents’ shifting needs.
“We just haven’t been seeing a great need for that (memory care) in our area,” said Hazuga, noting a downward trend has been noted over the past two years or so.
However, assisted living needs seem to be on the rise as Hazuga has noted many phone calls at The HomePlace inquiring about it.
Recently the facility put the finishing touches on upgrades for the studio apartments that will make up the new CBRF facility on the building’s second floor, including fresh paint and new carpet.
Two open house events will be held this Friday, Dec. 12, and Saturday, Dec. 13, from 1 - 4 p.m. to show off the new changes at the Mondovi facility. Refreshments and tours of the CBRF apartments, which each contain a bedroom, kitchenette, and private bathroom with shower, will be offered.
The HomePlace began accepting applications for assisted living rooms late last month and will take new residents on a first come, first serve basis.
Meals, daily activities and laundry services will be offered as part of the new senior housing setup. Basic utilities and housekeeping assistance twice a week will also be included.
Hazuga said The HomePlace’s CBRF facility will allow residents the freedoms of independent living while still offering them individual contact with staff three times a day for peace of mind.
“They’ll have some oversight,” he said. “It’ll be a nice way for them to be able to interact and socialize with different people.”
Joining up with a CBRF also comes with a significant cost savings as opposed to a traditional nursing home for those who do not yet require a high level of care or monitoring.
Hazuga said assisted living services at The HomePlace will run about $1,200 per month while a more advanced level of care can cost upwards of $3,500.
