Mondovi boys down Durand
by Beth Kraft
The Mondovi boys basketball team notched its third straight victory last week with a solid 50-38 non-conference win over neighboring rival Durand in the team’s lone game of the week on Monday, Dec. 22.
Both teams were evenly-matched during first quarter play, but the Buffaloes blew the game open with a 23-point effort in the second quarter to take the 31-18 lead going into halftime.
Durand recovered nicely in the third quarter, holding the Buffaloes to just five points in the period to pull within four, 36-32, but Mondovi turned the tables and buckled down in the fourth to pull away for good.
Senior Hayden Ford paced the Buffaloes with a game-high 13 points while fellow seniors Colton Berg and Jake Ede chipped in with 10 points apiece followed by Cody Dregney with nine.
The Mondovi boys resumed action with their annual holiday tournament at La Crosse Aquinas on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 29 and 30. The Buffaloes were slated to open tournament play with Prairie du Chien Monday afternoon.
