Mondovi boys triumph over the Wolves for first win of season, fall to Bangor

On Friday, Dec. 18, the Buffaloes took on the Elmwood/Plum City Wolves at home determined to earn their first win of the season. E/PC started out strong, but the Buffaloes responded and led the majority of the game.

Mondovi converted some steal opportunities into layups in the first half, building a comfortable lead, but E/PC began knocking down some shots of their own to narrow the gap before halftime. The Buffaloes headed for the locker room at the half up 24-16.

As time ticked down, the score grew closer and closer. With both teams in the bonus, free throws were crucial. In the end, the Buffaloes came out on top 45-41.

Lead scorers for the Buffaloes were Blake Purdy with 15 points and Greg Poeschel with 10. Purdy also led on the glass with 11 rebounds, followed by Cole Kamla with eight.

The very next afternoon the boys hit the road to face Bangor for a non-conference game.

Mondovi was still very much alive at halftime, though down 42-29, but the Buffaloes couldn’t find a way to cut into the home squad’s lead in the second half, resulting in a 77-57 loss. 

Four Bangor players had double-digit scoring efforts.

Purdy was once again the offensive leader for Mondovi with a game-high 19 points. Poeschel knocked down a trio of 3-pointers for nine points and Hunter Evans added eight.

The Buffaloes traveled to Osseo-Fairchild on Tuesday, Dec. 21, to face the Thunder in another non-conference bout.
