Mondovi wrestlers notch successful start to 2014-15 season
The Mondovi wrestling team traveled to Eau Claire Memorial for a dual meet on Thursday, Dec. 4. The Buffaloes came out on top by a score of 42-30.
Winning matches for Mondovi were: 120—Austin Fedie, 126—Bryan Larson, 132—Trevor Hurt, 138—Trevor Giedd, 145—Brett Larson, 152—Lee Becker, 160—Jake West and 170—Ben Andress. Ricardo Aguilar also won a JV match for the Buffaloes.
On Saturday, Dec. 6, the Mondovi wrestlers traveled to Chetek for an eight team dual meet tournament. Mondovi went 4-1 on the day finishing second as a team. Team scores were as follows:
Round 1—Mondovi 47, Regis-McDonell 36
Round 2—Mondovi 37, Cameron 36
Round 3—Mondovi 42, Cornell-Gilman-Lake Holcombe 36
Round 4—Mondovi 36, Hayward 33
Round 5—Chetek 42, Mondovi 30
Four Mondovi wrestlers were named champions in their respective weight classes, 120—Fedie, 126—Bryan Larson, 138—Brett Larson and 145—Giedd, going 5-0 on the day.
“The guys wrestled well this week,” commented head coach Randy Pongratz. “At this point we are only filling nine of our 14 weight classes for various reasons. We won six dual meets this week missing about one-third of our team. The guys are looking sharp and we are getting lots of pins. When we fill our line-up we are going to be pretty solid.”
The wrestlers will host Independence-Gilmanton for a dual meet on Thursday, Dec. 11, beginning at 7 p.m. Mondovi will also participate in the 27-team Eau Claire North Husky Invite on Saturday, Dec. 13.
