Mondovi wrestlers top Indy/Gilmanton, compete at North tourney
The Mondovi wrestling team hosted Independence/Gilmanton for a dual meet on Thursday, Dec. 11, coming out on top by a wide margin with a score of 57-6.
Winning matches for Mondovi were: 120—Austin Fedie, 126—Bryan Larson, 132—Trevor Giedd, 138—Brett Larson, 152—Lee Becker, 160—Garrett Kees, 170—Jake West, 182—Ben Andress and 195—Bryce Johnson. Jake Peterson also won a JV match for the Buffaloes.
On Saturday, Dec. 13, the Mondovi wrestlers traveled to Eau Claire North for a 25-team tournament. Mondovi finished ninth as a team with 201 points.
Individual place winners for the Buffaloes were: 120—Austin Fedie, 7th; 126—Bryan Larson, 7th; 126—Trevor Hurt 10th; 132—Trevor Giedd, 3rd; 138—Brett Larson, 8th; 152—Lee Becker, 6th; 220—Devon Yarrington, 7th.
“The guys wrestled pretty good this week,” commented head coach Randy Pongratz. “We are up to filling 10 of our 14 weight classes. The team should be at full strength in early January. If the team continues to keep working hard we should do just fine as the season progresses.”
The wrestlers hosted Regis-McDonell on Tuesday, Dec. 16, for a dual meet. They will also participate in the Northern Badger Classic in River Falls on Dec. 29 and 30.
