Myrtle Wright

Myrtle J. Wright (nee Bergstrom), 87, passed away peacefully on Sept. 22, 2018, in hospice care in Fitchburg, Wis. Her devoted daughters, Mary C Wright and Sara A Wright were by her side.
Born in Warren, Minn. in 1931, she eventually moved to Norcross, Minn.. in 1943, and Herman, Minn., in 1946, graduating from Herman-Norcross High School in 1949.
Following her graduation, she moved to Minneapolis to continue her schooling, working various part-time jobs to support herself. There she met Thomas J Wright, who she married in Fergus Falls, Minn., in 1953, and moved with him to Omaha, Neb. and Kansas City, Kan. They divorced in 1961, and Myrt moved to Mondovi, Wis. with their two young daughters, working in a medical clinic there and eventually saving enough to buy Etiennes, a fishing resort in Gordon, Wis.
After retiring from the medical clinic in 1980, she moved with her longtime companion, Winthrop (Binks) Nogle, to the resort, where she took up full-time management of the business.
Selling Etiennes in 1993, she moved to Minneapolis, Minn., where she started a 25-year career as a sorority House Director, working at the University of Minnesota/Twin Cities (Gamma Phi Beta), the University of Wisconsin/Madison (Delta Gamma), and finally the University of Massachusetts/Amherst (Kappa Kappa Gamma), from which she retired in 2017 at the age of 86.
Myrt’s strength of character and compassion touched the lives of thousands of people, particularly young women, through her decades of service as a House Director and an active volunteer for numerous charities.
In addition to her daughters, she is survived by her son-in-law, Bob Winter (Mary Wright), Shorewood, Wis., Barb Peterson (partner of Sara Wright), Milwaukee, Wis., granddaughters, Sara Winter, Brooklyn, N.Y., and Madeline Winter, London, England; sister, Leanne Bergstrom, Madison, Wis.; brother, Ken Bergstrom (Nancy), St. Paul, Minn.; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will be holding a private ceremony celebrating her life. In lieu of flowers or cards, Myrt requested donations in her name to the Susan G Komen Cure for Breast Cancer Foundation, https://ww5.komen.org/, for whom she volunteered as a walk coordinator for many years.
