Robert Heck

Robert O. Heck passed away peacefully, surrounded by loving family, at Roselia Gardens, in Antigo, Wis., on Sept. 25, 2018.
Bob was born in Mondovi to Oscar and May (Moy) Heck on Feb. 26, 1924. He graduated from Mondovi High School in 1942. He served on the USS Midway as a Plank Member during World War II. After serving, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1951.
Bob moved to Marshfield in 1951 to develop the band program at Columbus High School and also taught at Spencer High School.
Bob married Margaret Quirt in October 1954. In 1957, he entered the life insurance business with the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance. He was dedicated to the Marshfield community, serving on the Marshfield School Board, the Greater Marshfield Industrial Corporation, the Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the City Planning Commission, a director of M&I Bank, an advisory board member of Wisconsin Children’s Service, president of Westview Country Club (RiverEdge), noon Rotary, the American Legion since 1945, and an Elk’s member since 1951. In 1993 he had a part in organizing the Marshfield Area Community Foundation and served as Executive Director for three years. He received the Rotary’s Service Above Self Award,
Bob loved five things passionately in his life: his family, music, his church, golf, and reading. He was married to Margaret (Quirt) Heck for 42 years. After her death in 1997, he met Barbara (Bitzer) McDermid and enjoyed their partnership for 21 years.
He will be greatly missed by his family and partner Barbara McDermid and her family. He is survived by two daughters, Ellen Anderson (Wells), the Rev. Dr. Barbara Heck (Rob Nelson); two grandsons, Arthur and Eric Nelson; two brothers, Alger (Lana) Heck, San Diego, Calif. and Keith (Carol) Heck, Grants Pass, Or.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Margaret; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Glenn and Margaret Heck and Lyle and Ellen (Strand) Heck.
His memorial service was on Saturday, Sept. 29, at the First Presbyterian Church of Marshfield, 200 Lincoln Ave. Visitation was at the church at 10:30 a.m. and the service followed at 11:30 a.m. The interment was private.
Bob would be happiest for memorial gifts to be given in his memory to the Marshfield Area Community Foundation, The Bob and Margaret Heck Administration Endowment Fund, or the First Presbyterian Church, Marshfield.
