Vehicles sustain significant damage in recent crashes; occupants receive medical transport
Two accidents that occurred in the Mondovi area recently resulted in major damage to the vehicles involved. Two individuals sustained non-life threatening injuries and received medical transport.
The first incident occured on Thursday afternoon, Aug. 20, near the intersection of U.S. Highway 10 and Segerstrom Road just east of Mondovi.
According to the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Department, deputy Sheyann Wieczorek was on patrol when she came across a southbound vehicle that had crashed on Segerstrom Rd. at around 12:20 p.m.
Wieczorek determined that the vehicle, a 1997 Jeep Wrangler driven by Dylan D. Kruger, 24, of Eleva, was southbound on Segerstrom Rd. when the back tire on the driver’s side came off, causing Kruger to lose control. The vehicle then rolled once, coming to rest on its wheels in the ditch.
Kruger and an unnamed adult female passenger were the occupants of the vehicle. The female passenger sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported by Mondovi Ambulance to an Eau Claire hospital.
The Mondovi Fire Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol also assisted with the incident.
The second accident involved a dump truck that was southbound on State Highway 37 on Monday afternoon, Aug. 24, when it left the roadway and crashed into the ditch near County Road TT.
Buffalo County sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call at 3:08 p.m. reporting the one vehicle accident involving a 1998 Peterbilt dump truck, owned by Menomonie Ag Trucking of Menomonie, driven by 47-year-old James R. Parker of Eau Claire.
Authorities say the driver lost control of the dump truck, which entered the southbound ditch striking road signs, mailboxes, and eventually a field road causing significant damage to the truck.
Parker was still inside the dump truck when deputies arrived. He sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported by Mondovi Ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire.
Kabus Trucking of Independence responded to the scene of the crash with two large wreckers to remove the dump truck from the ditch.
Traffic citations are pending for Parker, police say.
The Mondovi Fire Department and passerby also assisted at the scene.
Both incidents remain under investigation by the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Department. The dump truck is being inspected by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
