Mondovi boys start season with pair of tough losses

This last week the Mondovi boys basketball team began its 2015-2016 season with some tough competition. On Tuesday Dec. 1, the boys traveled to Regis and on Friday, Dec. 4, they hosted their first home game against the Colfax Vikings.

The score with the Regis Ramblers was close throughout the game, but time just ran out for the Buffaloes. In the end, Regis edged Mondovi 71-65.

Lead scorers for the night were Greg Poeschel with 17 points and Blake Purdy with 15 points. Purdy also led the Buffs on the boards with 11 rebounds.

Next up was the first home game of the year against the Colfax Vikings to kick off Dunn-St. Croix Conference action. Yet again, the game was close throughout. Though the Buffaloes put up a fight, the Mondovi boys again found themselves on the losing side of a close contest, 44-37.

Purdy led the charge for Mondovi with a game-high 17 points followed by Sawyer Hayes with five points and Ty Parker and Poeschel with four points apiece. Purdy also scored a double-double with 12 rebounds to his credit.

The Buffaloes will travel to Elk Mound to take on the Mounders on Thursday, Dec. 10, in hopes of securing their first victory.
