Mondovi wrestlers start off 2015-16 season
To begin the 2015-16 season, the Mondovi wrestling team hosted Eau Claire Memorial, for a dual meet, on Thursday, Dec. 3. The Buffaloes lost by a score of 58-15.
Winning matches for Mondovi were: 126—Nick Pelke, 138—Austin Fedie, 145—Dillon Larson and 152—Lee Becker.
On Saturday, Dec. 5, the Mondovi wrestlers traveled to Chetek for an six-team dual meet tournament. Mondovi went 2-3 on the day, finishing fourth as a team. Team scores are as follows:
Round 1—Chetek 54, Mondovi 4; Round 2—Mondovi 30, Regis 15; Round 3—Cornell/Gilman/Lake Holcombe 42, Mondovi 34; Round 4–Cameron 51, Mondovi 24; Round 5—Mondovi 23, Bruce 15.
Wrestling at 138 and 145 pounds, respectively, Fedie (4-1) and Larson (5-0) were Mondovi’s only champions for their respective weight classes.
“The guys wrestled well this week,” commented Mondovi head coach Randy Pongratz. “At this point we are only filling six of our fourteen weight classes for various reasons. We won two dual meets this weekend missing about a third of our team.”
“Wrestler of the Week” honors go to Larson (145).
“Dillon is currently 6-0 and has had several pins and a tech. fall,” Pongratz said. “He has been working hard and is wrestling tough.”
The Mondovi wrestlers traveled to Regis on Tuesday, Dec. 8, and will head to Independence/Gilmanton on Thursday, Dec. 10, for dual meets. The team will also participate in the 27-team Eau Claire North Husky Invite on Saturday, Dec. 12.
