Evans, wheelchair basketball team to demonstrate skills Jan. 16

A local wheelchair basketball star and his team are scheduled to return to the Mondovi High School gym for a demonstration this Saturday afternoon, Jan. 16.
MHS senior Collin Evans and the Junior Rolling Timberwolves will burn rubber on the hardwood at approximately 2 p.m. in between the doubleheader scheduled for the Mondovi girls and boys varsity basketball teams vs. Boyceville that afternoon.
Evans and the T’Wolves made a run at the national title in the junior division of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association in both 2014 and 2015. Two years ago, Evans and his teammates brought home the national championship trophy. Last year the T’Wolves earned runner-up honors and Evans was named national tournament MVP for averaging 18.5 points per game during the four-game series.
In November Evans took his game overseas, traveling to Japan to compete in the 2015 Kitakyushu Champions Cup. He was one of just 12 athletes invited to join Team USA’s U30 team, which could lead to a roster spot for the 2016 or 2020 Paralympic Games.
Evans and the Junior Rolling Timberwolves typically practice at the Courage Center, a non-profit rehabilitation resource center located in the Twin Cities area, but the squad has been to Mondovi before. A similar demonstration was held in 2012 when Evans was first moved up to the Courage Center’s varsity squad.
The Junior Rolling Timberwolves are a co-ed team for youths ages 13-18.
Collin is the son of Rob and Dawn Evans of Mondovi.
