Bauer named Gilmanton’s first Eagle Scout

Cameron Bauer officially became Gilmanton’s first known Eagle Scout at his Court of Honor ceremony on Sept. 25 at the Gilmanton American Legion. Pictured with Bauer are Gilmanton Boy Scout leaders (left to right) Daren Bauer, Jeremiah Bauer and Bob Bauer.

A 2016 Gilmanton High School graduate, Cameron Bauer recently earned the Boy Scout organization’s top honor for his work to replace the benches that circle Rainbow Lake and refurbish the sign at the Gilmanton park. The project, supported by the Gilmanton Community Club and the township, took Bauer over 160 hours to complete during the course of his senior year.

Cameron and his uncle, Dean Bauer, worked to assemble the benches on-site using pre-cut pieces of wood. Cameron says he didn’t have much prior construction experience, but his uncle helped provide key assistance in the bench design and construction process.

Cameron Bauer and Damontae Dewitt showed off the new entrance sign at Gilmanton’s Rainbow Lake Park. As part of his Eagle Scout project, Bauer sanded and painted the sign and added the new fish carving created by Dewitt.

Using a belt sander, Cameron Bauer worked to refinish the sign the hangs at the entrance of Rainbow Lake Park.

Cameron Bauer used a power saw to cut the wooden components that would come together to form new benches often used by fishing enthusiasts at Gilmanton’s Rainbow Lake Park.
